Forging Identity: Steampunk Storytelling Meets Modern Dining

The Forge Kitchen required a bold new brand direction to match its ambitious smokehouse and bar offering. The existing identity was functional but lacked excitement, and a refreshed visual language was needed to connect with customers and investors alike.

We developed a steampunk-inspired aesthetic that complemented the venue’s industrial interiors, introducing the character “Bertram Black Esq.” as a central brand mascot. This visual storytelling approach later extended into the creation of Smith’s Cocktails, a bottled range that became a vital alternative revenue stream during lockdowns. The success of this sister brand confirmed the power of the new creative direction and paved the way for The Forge’s full transformation.

The website was rebuilt with layered illustration, digital collage, and subtle motion to deliver an immersive brand experience. Performance was a key focus, after optimisation, the site jumped from a failing speed grade to 73% on mobile and 98% on desktop.

Beyond digital, the identity was rolled out across menus, print collateral, gift vouchers, large-scale wall murals, and a branded food truck, unifying every touchpoint under one cohesive story.

The Forge Kitchen now has an identity as distinctive as its dining experience.
